Without
any proper brushing after the intake of food, food debris left in the
mouth not only discolors the teeth but, as time goes on, combines with
oral bacteria and inorganic substance in saliva. Then it turns stones,
occupying room on the teeth.
This dental plaque, calculus, nicotine or extrinsic coloring matter can be
removed with proper brushing. On the other hand, the increase of
dental plaque resulting from inappropriate brushing creates periodontal
diseases such as bad breath (halitosis), swollen gums or hypersensitive
and painful teeth.
Dental plaque is the most common cause of dental diseases. For adults,
periodontal disease originating from dental plaque is the major
cause of tooth loss. Once left untreated, while tooth decay is limited
only to a specific tooth, periodontal diseases take some or all of your
teeth away.
In this regard, there is a need for adopt scaling to remove the dental
plaque, or calculus.
Scaling is not just an esthetic care that cleans teeth and provides a
refreshed feeling but is a basic element in any dental treatment.
Regular scaling is the best prevention and treatment of periodontal
diseases in that it makes the early detection of other oral diseases and
their treatment possible. Dentists advise you to receive scaling once a
year. But smokers or those with periodontal diseases are recommended to
visit them twice a year. Scaling is especially necessary for those over
their late thirties as they are more prone to periodontal diseases.
